Arnold Alderman is Invited by EPA to be a Working Member of Test Procedure Harmonization Project

June 10, 2007 - Los Angeles - The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has invited Arnold Alderman, President of Anagenesis, Inc., to serve as a key US participant on the Test Procedure Harmonization project under the Buildings and Appliances Task Force (BATF) of the Asia-Pacific Partnership (APP) on Clean Development and Climate. The APP has been established as a voluntary, non-legally binding framework for international cooperation between the US, Australia, Japan, India, Korea, and China.

The Test Procedure Harmonization project has been identified as an important iniative under the APP BATF because all participating countries have test procedures, efficiency standards, and labeling (mandatory and/or voluntary) schemes for a wide variety of products.  In the majority of cases, however, these test procedures and associated performance levels are different in each region, resulting in a worldwide patchwork of performance requirements and criteria with which manufacturers must comply in any given market.  Mr. Alderman pointed out, "This effort is very important and addresses the entreaty for standards harmonization included in the efficiency position letter from the Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA) that I helped draft in 2005. I am very pleased to have this opportunity to assist with this very important work.

The Steering Committee for the Buildings and Appliances Task Force has identified four (4) priority product areas which include: lighting, HVAC/refrigeration, electronics, and motors.  For each of these product areas, a core Work Group is being established with 2 or 3 important stakeholders from each participating country of the APP. Mr. Alderman will be a member of the Electronics Work Group.
